"There are no boundaries between artists and designers" - Eiko Ishioka

4-6-11 Design spans brand-building, art and graphic design, working to enhance business strategy.

4-6-11 Design is the name for my freelance graphic design and brand consultation business. The numbers represent the years my children were born - the greatest creations I share, and a symbol of what I value most.

Many years of diverse design experience includes advertising industry art direction and graphic design, lecturing, studio management, freelance design, and brand management. I have a sound working knowledge of advertising, retail and corporate environments, as well as strategy and client liaison on different levels, and it's important to me that great creative work assists in achieving business objectives.

While heading up the campus design studio at North-West University (Graphikos, as shown on the left here), through my involvement with the corporate identity committee, I was asked to manage a complex university brand that spans 3 campuses, 3 languages and operates within a unique management model and hybrid brand architecture. Understanding people is crucial to gaining necessary support and buy-in, and previously leading a studio of 10 designers taught me a great deal about management, workflow co-ordination, planning and providing creative direction.

Through the years I've worked on all sides of the line - being involved in TV ads, photo-shoots, print ads, billboards, environmental graphics, signage, corporate identity creation and evolution thereof, events graphics, retail, promotions, book design, as well as brand books and digital material for an online company. Each project provides its own challenges and opportunities, and I love doing the research, and being creative within the particular limitations. Additionally, my role at the Creativity Centre at North-West University allows me to faciliate others' creative journeys too, through our short-courses, and I love to teach.
